The Oscars are considered to be one of the most popular and prestigious film awards in the world. The first Oscar Award was given on May 16, 1929. Initially it was known as “Academy Awards”. It was later renamed “Oscar Academy Award”.

Every year the highest grossing Hollywood films are nominated for Oscar Academy Awards. Oscars are then awarded in various categories such as Best Male Actor, Best Director, etc. from the nominated films.
A separate section for foreign films

- Each film should be more than 40 minutes.
- 35mm or 70mm print required. Or should be 24 frames per second or 48 frames per second.
- The film should be in digital format. Pixel resolution should not be less than 1280×720 pixels.
- In order to nominate a film for an Oscar, all official credit forms for that movie must be submitted.
- Only members of that section can vote for Oscar awards in any category.
- The rules for the foreign film Oscars are slightly different. In this case, the special member of all departments is elected by vote. Each country can send only one film nomination per year.

Mother India was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 30th Academy Awards in 1958. Salaam Bombay was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 61st Academy Awards in 1989. In 2002, Lagaan was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards.
Indians who won Oscars
Bhanu Athaiya was the first Oscar winner from India. Who won the best costume design award for the film ‘Gandhi’. Satyajit Ray, a well-known director from West Bengal, was awarded an Oscar in 1992 for his contribution to the world of cinema.
Resul Pookutty won an Oscar for Best Sound Mixing in the film Slumdog Millionaire. A. R. Rahman and Gulzar won the award for Best Original Song for the Jai Ho song in the film Slumdog Millionaire. A. R. Rahman also won the award for Best Original Score for Slumdog Millionaire.
“Naatu Naatu” song won Oscar
RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ has won the Best Original Song award at the Oscars. The film’s soundtrack to Dance Battle won the Academy Awards for Best Original Song. It is the first song from an Indian film to receive this award.

Natu Natu composer M. M. Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose took to the stage to collect the Oscar they won for Best Original Song. Besides Jr. NTR, his RRR co-star Ram Charan and his wife Upasana and the film’s director SS Rajamouli also attended the Academy Awards.
