Rajnath Singh was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1964. From 1969 to 1971, he was the organizational secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Gorakhpur. In 1972, he became the general secretary of the Mirzapur branch. After 2 years in 1974, he joined politics.
Member of Legislative Assembly
In 1974, he was made the Mirzapur secretary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (now Bharatiya Janata Party). In 1975, he was appointed as the district president of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. In 1977, Rajnath Singh won the election from Mirzapur and became a member of the Legislative Assembly.

Rajnath Singh served as a cabinet minister in the cabinet of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also served as Minister of Road Transport and Agriculture under Vajpayee’s Prime Ministership.

Rajnath Singh started his political career as a youth leader in Uttar Pradesh. He has also been the president of the youth wing of the party.
