French fries, chips, finger chips, french-fried potatoes, or simply fries, are batonnet or allumette-cut deep-fried potatoes of disputed origin from Belgium or France. They are prepared by cutting potatoes into even strips, drying them, and frying them, usually in a deep fryer.

Ingredients
- 3 large size potatoes
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying (as required)
- Water (as needed)

Method of making
- First peel the potatoes. (Red-skinned potatoes would be best.)
- Cut the peeled potatoes into long French fries shape.
- After cutting the potatoes, heat a large pot of water.
- After heating water, add the potatoes into the water.
- Drain the potatoes after they are 70% submerged.
- Drain the potatoes in a clean cloth and dry them.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the parboiled fries little by little until golden brown (hard).
- Add salt or peri-peri masala over it and mix well and serve.
French fries primarily contain carbohydrates (mostly in the form of starch) and protein from the potato, and fat absorbed during the deep-frying process.
